Dan Miscisco

Basketball BC honoured long-time Handsworth basketball coach Dan Miscisco with a special merit award Saturday for his "significant contribution to the development of basketball" in British Columbia. Miscisco, who led his junior girls' basketball team to the #2 seed at the provincials this season after securing first place in the Lower Mainland

Championships, will be retiring at the end of the current school year. In addition to his work at Handsworth, the high energy coach has also run athletic programs for the kids on the North Shore for more than 30 years. Aside from his tremendous record on the court - including numerous trips to the B.C.'s, V&D's and North Shore finals - his - off-court fundraising at the North Vancouver school is also legendary. He was, for example, responsible for refurbishing the Handsworth gym with a new floor and scoreboard. "I was really honoured, "Miscisco told the North Shore Outlook after receiving the award.
